The Rector of British Transatlantic Polytechnic , Akure, Ondo State, Dr. Joseph Obe, has disclosed that the Institution is very motivated and committed to change the narrative of Nigerian graduates to highly skilled workers fit for the world of work.
The Rector made the disclosure while addressing the gathering at the maiden matriculation ceremony recently held at the main campus of the Polytechnic for 2023-2025 academic sessions.
Reiterating the management’s concern at the Polytechnic to produce job-ready graduates with functional skills to work in today’s technology driven world, Dr. Obe stated that the Polytechnic will challenge inferiority of Nigerian Polytechnic graduates in global competition through delivery of world class teaching and training methodologies, globalized curriculum, international collaboration and partnership.
“We want all our students to be proud and tall, competitive very well with the peers anywhere in the world. That is why the word British in our name is not to promote western ideology but to show that what is obtainable in Britain can be replicated in Nigeria. Black or white we are all equal!”, said he.
It could be recalled that the British Transatlantic Polytechnic got the Federal government approval and the licence to operate as an independent polytechnic in January 2023 and started with five courses in Engineering, Digital Industries, cloud Accounting and Data Science.
Barely a year, five more courses were added to the list making a total of ten academic programmes. The additional programmes range from Mass communication, multimedia to Science Laboratory Technology.
The Rector who also doubles as the Chief Executive of the Polytechnic is
deploying his over 20 years academic and school management experience in world class academic institutions both locally and in the United Kingdom to produce graduates that are globally competitive.
In his word, “great institutions are birthed by great innovators. We are a technical- oriented institution; therefore we must live our calling by producing great ideas consistent with best practices in educational institutions across the globe.
“Importantly, we need to understand that times have changed and we are evolving in digital innovation, artificial intelligence and virtual laboratory, we must therefore constantly think outside the box and produce graduates with international appeal.
“We will continue to invest huge financial and human capital resources to ensure we are a leading technological Institution recognized globally for its quality, relevance and impact in the area of training and applied research in the near future”. The Rector maintained.
While formally welcoming the new intakes, Dr. Obe who congratulated them on behalf of the governing Council stated that they are creating a future for themselves, adding that they would rise above and beyond.
Towards getting the Polytechnic’s mission achieved, the Global North London Business School, a partner through international linkages having been in the business of training the personnel of high profiled establishments, both public and private across the world with the focus of empowering professionals and organisations to enhance productivity, competitiveness and compliance, has offered scholarship to five ND 1 students of the Institution for the next academic session.
The Beneficiaries were selected based on their academic performance, exceptional leadership qualities and excellent characters.
In his remark, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Pastor Julius Ayodele described the scholarship offered by the GNLBS Management as a big relief for the parents of the benefiting students. He therefore urged them to make good use of the opportunity.
