The director of Distinction Gate College, located along Igando Road in Ikotun area of Lagos, Mr Davi Gilbert Sosi has opined that the best way to celebrate Valentine’s Day is by engaging in acts of charity and sharing gifts to less privileged children.

Mr Sosi, who is fondly called ‘DG’ by his associates and staff, declared further that love is best expressed in interactions with people who are socially disadvantaged, not necessarily among friends, and he further stressed that it should not be done in an amorous manner on Valentine’s Day.

‘DG’ added that tutors and educationists in general must remind students, teenagers and youths that it is wrong of them to keep thinking that Valentine’s Day is meant for a show of amorous love between people of opposite gender, which he warned is a dangerous misconception that has led to many boys and girls being forced to drop out of school as a result of wrong actions that are usudlly taken by many young ones on February 14th of every year.
He used the occasion of this year’s celebration of Valentine’s Day to buttress the need for students and youths across the world to avoid any immoral conduct and illicit activities on the symbolic day of love, as such erroneous action could lead to fornication, unwanted pregnancies, rape and other vicesOn the other hand, in order to buttress his point about making acts of charity an integral part of Valentine’s Day, ‘DG’ led some of his students, teachers and staff on a visit to Bethlehem Orphanage, Abaronje Road, Ikotun to share various household items and food that were donated by the management of Distinction Gate College and a cross-section of patents.

Mr Sosi explained: “This is a gesture that we find profitable on Valentine’s Day, and we have made it our annual tradition. We always instruct the students not to exchange gifts among themselves or even with their teachers on Valentine’s Day, because that may lead to immoral activities. Instead of sharing gifts and professing love to one another, we encourage them to gather various useful items in a pool that is taken to children at an orphanage, because we want to show love to young people who are without parents.”

The day began with all the students and teachers coming together in the school’s hall for prayers towards better days ahead of them, and an exhortation was provided by a visiting gospel minister who spoke on a topic titled ‘The Vices Of Valentine’s Day.’
