Liverpool are reportedly nearing an agreement to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new head coach following the departure of Arne Slot, with the club aiming to complete the process before the FIFA Club World Cup begins on June 11.

According to reports, sporting director Richard Hughes is leading discussions with the 43-year-old Spaniard, who recently left Bournemouth after a successful three-year spell on the south coast. Hughes is believed to be a strong admirer of Iraola’s attacking and high-intensity style of football, viewing it as a natural fit for Liverpool’s long-term vision.

While Liverpool have also assessed other managerial candidates, including Sebastian Hoeness and Pierre Sage, Iraola has emerged as the leading contender for the role. The former Bournemouth boss is expected to bring trusted assistant Tommy Elphick as part of his coaching staff should the move be finalised.

Iraola enhanced his reputation during his time at Bournemouth, guiding the club to a historic sixth-place Premier League finish and securing European qualification for the first time. His achievements came despite significant player departures and a series of squad rebuilds, attracting interest from several major European clubs.

Liverpool are eager to conclude their managerial search quickly as preparations continue for a crucial summer. Alongside appointing a new coaching team, the club is expected to focus on strengthening the squad ahead of the new season, with attacking reinforcements reportedly among their priorities.
