The jersey worn by Pelé in 1958 World Cup final, is expected to sell for £4.5 million.At 17, Pelé rocorded brace against Sweden, helping Brasil, his team to secure a 5-2 victory.
His historic number 10 jersey will be the only item offered at Sotheby’s “Beautiful Game” auction in New York, with bidding set to open on June 29, exactly 68 years after Brazil’s triumph.
Sotheby’s stated about the jersey: “This shirt has not been exhibited to the public for over 20 years, and its historical significance in the football memorabilia market is unparalleled, with four members of the 1958 World Cup-winning squad confirming its authenticity.”
