    Nigeria Gearing up For Exciting Weekend As It hosts Davis Cup World Group II Playoffs at the Lagos

    Nigeria will host the Davis Cup World Group II playoffs from Feb. 7–8, 2026, at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, with the nation set to face Uzbekistan in a crucial tie.

    Action begins on February 7 at 11 a.m. with Nigeria’s Canice Abua taking on Uzbekistan’s Khumoyun Sultanov in the opening singles rubber. Daniel Adeleye will then face Abdulaziz Usmonjonov, scheduled to start 15 minutes after the first match.

    The matches will take place on Saturday through Sunday with Nigeria presenting a strong five man team of Daniel Adeleye, Canice Abua, Michael Emmanuel, Uchenna Oparaoji and Yusuf Abubakar.

    President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei stated that with confidence that Nigeria will defeat Uzbekistan in the World Group II Promotion playoffs.

    The Davis Cup, organized by the International Tennis Federation, is the premier international team competition in men’s tennis and is widely regarded for its emphasis on national pride and team spirit. Ties typically feature singles and doubles matches played in a home-and-away format.

    Nigeria has a long history in the Davis Cup, having competed in the Africa Zone since the early decades of the competition. The event has served as a platform for showcasing Nigerian talent, boosting domestic tennis development and providing players with valuable international exposure.

    Hosting the playoffs is another reflection of the National Sports Commission continued focus on repositioning Nigeria as a global destination for sports, and specifically advance the country’s standing in international tennis.
