The Yucateco boxing trials held in Kwara state have continued to receive plaudits from various quarters. The event staged at the sports hall of Queen Elizabeth school in Ilorin on Saturday July 14th, had several boxing fans and dignitaries in attendance to cheer over fifty pugilists from across the state.

It will be recalled that Sportsday online.com reported that the boxing coaches association in Kwara state in a letter requested Yucateco boxing promotions to stage a scouting programme in Ilorin for young pugilists.

According to the technical director of Yucateco boxing league Babatunde Laguda, the outfit have discovered a number of talented pugilists at the trials, and they will be supported with subsequent training and exposure.

” I am happy we were able to pull this through despite our very tight schedule with preparation in top gear for season 2 of the boxing league, we are truly encouraged with the turn out of not only the boxers but also the fans who came out in their numbers to give their support to the cause”

” Those we have selected among the pugilists would be given further considerations and a more structured platform to continue their growth and development, there are several boxing talents in Kwara state and we hope to do this again some other time Laguda noted”.

With the conclusion of the trails in Kwara state, attention will now shift to the boxing league which gets on the way with week one round of bouts in Lagos on Friday July 26th.

Twelve boxing Clubs have been accredited for season two of the Yucateco boxing league. The winner of the second season of the league which debuted in 2023 will receive a prize money of 50 million naira.
