Benin City, the Edo state capital agog for the maiden edition of the Christian Football League competition among churches in Edo state.
The tournament put together by the Christian Football Association( CFA) Benin City, is tagged Football goes to church, and it is targeted to win 1000 souls for Christ this year in Edo state.
According the President of the Christian Football Association( CFA) Kenneth Imanah, the league will be competed for by 12 teams for the first season and the tournament format will be expanded next year.
The maiden edition of the tournament for male teams that is expected to kick off February 14th 2025 at the Crescent Sports club, Iriri Benin City, will have the following churches competing, they include Assemblies of God, Christ Chosen church of God, Winners chapel ( Ogheghe) Christ Glory church of Christ, New Covenant Gospel church, DaySpring Gospel Church, Celestial Church of Christ, Winners Chapel ( Saint Savour) Voice of Freedom Ministries, Mountain of Fire Ministry, Blaze of Glory Christian Church and Divine Grace of Glory.
The season Football Administrator Imanah said the Christian Football Association, was founded to promote the gospel of Christ through the instrumentality of football, to win souls for Christ and develop them into becoming Professional Footballers. He assured the participating teams of a well organized event as winners will be rewarded accordingly.
Expected to strengthen the unity amongst churches in the state, the First ever Christian Football League in Nigeria, will begin by 2pm on February 14th 2025 at the Crescent Sports Club, Iriri GRA, Benin City with various religious Leaders in attendance.
