Blue House has emerged the overall winner of this year’s Annual Inter House Sports competition of Government Secondary School (GSS) Gwarimpa (Life Camp).
.In winning the 23rd edition of the completion, Blue House placed overall 1st with 474 cumulative points, which allowed them to retain the title they won in the 2024 edition.
They were followed closely by Green House whose 458 Points meant they placed 2nd; ahead of Pink House who finished in the 3rd position with a total of 444 Points; while Yellow House brought up the rear in the table with a paltry 290 points.
Speaking at the occasion, the Director FCT Secondary Education Board Dr. Mohammed Sani Ladan who was represented by the Head of Sports in the Board, Mrs. Ehidiahme Alero Gladys thanked the management of GSS Gwarimpa 1, for their resilience in making sure that Physical Education continues to be part of the School curriculum.
Winner of the Gold Medal in 100 meters (Girls), Lilian Ogbaji of Green House, told Sports Journalists, that she’s pleased to be the school’s fastest girl in 2025.
“I have been doing this since my primary school days, so I wanted to try my best, not necessarily to be the first, but I worked hard for it and I’m happy to win, and will put in my best if given a bigger platform to showcase my talent”, Lilian said.
Similarly, Godwin Agbo who anchored the Blue House quartet that won the Blue Riband 4 x 100 meters Relay Gold for (Boys), said he is looking forward to an opportunity to represent Team FCT at the upcoming National Sports Festival.
“If given a national sports festival trial by the FCT Coaches, I would be ready to give it a shot.
We all ran very well, but believing in one’s self was key. My teammates that did the laps before giving me the baton also did great. I am so happy we won. Godwin enthused.
Speaking earlier, Chairman Abuja Badminton Club Mr. Philemon Dube commended the Pupils and the management of the School for taking the Inter-house sports competition to greater heights.
“The award we got as a club shows the impact we have made in uplifting their sports facilities. We hope to contribute more, in the area of sports equipment and facilities, as our CSA”, Mr Dube asserted.
Principal of the School, Alhaji Abubakar Ajayi thanked the Abuja Badminton Club, and other organizations partnering with the School, for their outstanding contributions and support.
Alhaji Abubakar added that the management of the GSS Gwarimpa are expectant that more partners will buy into the steady strides of the School, especially in the area of sports and other facilities.
“It was a spectacle, that went as we planned. It’s a climax of a week long activities in sports, we had fun, and as a school we have discovered more athletes that we can use for the upcoming Barrister Nyesom Wike Sports Festival” the sports-loving Principal said with a smile.
The 2025 Inter-house sports competition featured seven sporting events; including 100 meters Boys & Girls, Basketball (Boys & Girls), and 4×100 meters Relay (Boys & Girls).
Others are Short Put, Javelin throw, 2000 meters race; as well as captivating Cultural Dances of each of the main ethnic groups of the country – Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, Gbagyi, and Fulani.
