A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. MKO Abimbola (Abogun), has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, after obtaining the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
Dr. Abogun is seeking to represent the Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency in Oyo State, a development expected to intensify political activity within the APC and heighten competition for the National Assembly seat.
The procurement of the nomination forms on Thursday, signals his official entry into the race, as consultations and alignments begin among political stakeholders across the constituency.
Described by supporters as a seasoned heathcare professional, Dr. Abogun is said to bring a combination of academic achievement and industry experience to his political ambition. His backers also point to his extensive travels within Nigeria and abroad as contributing to a broad understanding of socio-economic challenges and development issues.
Political observers say his entry introduces a new dimension to the contest, with party leaders likely to consider factors such as experience, grassroots support, and competence as the APC prepares for its primaries.
Although the 2027 elections remain some time away, momentum among aspirants is already building across party lines, particularly in Oyo State, where legislative contests have historically been keenly contested.
In a statement released by his campaign organisation, Dr. Abogun said his decision to run is motivated by a commitment to serve and provide effective representation at the National Assembly.
“With the support of my community and a firm resolve to serve diligently, I have obtained my Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to supporters, friends, and family for their prayers and continued moral and financial support, expressing confidence in eventual victory.
