Arsenal booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in 20 years after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid at the Emirates Stadium sealed a 2-1 aggregate semifinal win.

The decisive moment came just before halftime when Bukayo Saka reacted quickest to a rebound, tapping home from close range after Jan Oblak had saved an initial effort. The goal proved enough to send Mikel Arteta’s side into a historic final, sparking wild celebrations among players and fans at full time.

Atlético began brightly, with Julián Álvarez and Giuliano Simeone testing Arsenal early, but the hosts gradually took control. Viktor Gyökeres played a key role in the breakthrough, driving to the byline before his cross led to the chance that Saka converted.

The visitors pushed for an equalizer in the second half, but Gabriel Magalhães produced a crucial defensive intervention to deny a clear opportunity. Late chances fell to Alexander Sørloth, but Atlético could not find the goal they needed.
For Mikel Arteta, this marks a defining achievement. Having already guided Arsenal to consecutive semifinals, he now takes them one step further, with the club still chasing a first-ever Champions League title after their 2006 final defeat to FC Barcelona.

The atmosphere inside the Emirates reflected the magnitude of the occasion, with fans creating a thunderous backdrop throughout the match. At the final whistle, Arteta and his players celebrated passionately with supporters, acknowledging a milestone moment in the club’s European journey.

On the touchline, Diego Simeone was his usual animated self, constantly urging his team forward and disputing decisions. Despite his influence and Atlético’s pedigree as two-time finalists, their campaign ends at the semifinal stage this season.

Arsenal will now prepare for a showdown against either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final on May 30 in Budapest, with history firmly within reach.
