The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that it has submitted the Super Falcons team list to FIFA ahead of the fast approaching Women World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.
Dr Mohammed Sanusi, the NFF Secretary General, confirmed the submission of the squad list.
The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup which will kick off next month will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand but Nigerians are worried by the delayed announcement of the Super Falcons provisional squad by the NFF.
This month, FIFA had announced plans to pay individual players participating in the upcoming tournament at least 30,000 dollars for group stage appearance, with the development sparking interest in who makes the final squad.
When asked on the sidelines of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six final in Asaba, Delta State capital on Sunday, the NFF scribe affirmed that the list has long been submitted.
“I don’t like answering technical questions because my office has to do with the administration as I am not the head of the Technical Department,” Sanusi told journalists.
“I can tell you that long ago, the list of those that would take part at the Women’s Word Cup has already been submitted.”
Nigeria’s opponent at the World Cup and Olympic champions, Canada last week released its provisional squad for the tournament with Australia and the Republic of Ireland also released theirs few days ago.
The nine-time African champions have made it to every edition of the Women’s World Cup since the maiden edition in 1991, with its best performance being a quarter-final finish at the tournament in 1999, under late Ismaila Mabo.
