Super Falcons centre back and Leicester player, Ashleigh Plumptre, says she is comfident of a super outing for the women national team, at the 2023 edition of FIFA Women’s World Cup taking place in Australia and New Zealand.

Ashleigh who would be making her madian world cup appearance for the Falcons, expressed her excitement saying:”It feels surreal that it’s actually happening. It’s been a long journey to get here from joining the team a couple of years ago to now. I can’t believe I’m here really. It’s a proud moment for sure!

Ashleigh Plumptre reveals to www.backpagenaija.com her expectations and that of every member of the Super Falcons, going into this World Cup is to challenge and compete.

“I believe we have a team that has the capability to compete and challenge every team in our group. We are all really excited to get the tournament going and to see how far we can get”.

She reveals that the mood in camp is great and inspiring as; “We’ve all arrived and have got settled into our hotel. We are just adjusting to the time difference but it feels great to be here”. And since the arrival of the team intense training has since commemced, to prepare the team and get them in them ready physically, mentally and psychologically for the Women’s World Cup.

Against the backdrop of how typically Nigerians expect our national teams to win every competition, and demand a minimum of a semi-final target which the Suoer Falcons  haven’t lived up to in all their appearances thus far; Ashleigh Plumptre, is confident of a great campaign at the mundial.

“The fans should be expecting a lot of fight from this team against other teams in our group. We have every ambition to get out of the group and go as far as we can. I never put targets on anything – I just want us to fulfill our potential and the results should follow that”.

Speaking on how the 2022/2023 WSL season went for her, the Leicester centre back says:”It felt so good to keep WSL status with Leicester after having a difficult start to the year. I think our performances showed that we have a resilient team that wasn’t willing to settle in a position that we didn’t feel deserving of. I’m proud of the team for staying up”.

The world cup starts on the 20th of July with the final on the 20th August, 2023. The Super Falcons would be in hostilities with Group B opponents, host Australia, Canada and Republic of Ireland.
