Toni Payne, the Super Falcons forward, has said the team won’t take Cape Verde for granted in first leg of the 2024 Women Africa Cup of Nations final round qualifier.
The Sevilla Femini star expressed confidence that the Super Falcons could get the needed result in the encounter.
While calling on fans to come out enmasse to support the team, she noted that despite the withdrawal of some key players, they still have good ones that would deliver.
She said: “We are ready to take on the next opponents for the qualifiers. We haven’t played Cape Verde and definitely can’t take them for granted.
“All teams are improving and we have to play our best.
“It’s unfortunate not to have our players in the team for this camp but we also have good players like Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu.
“I think we are very confident going into this match. Nigerians should come out and support us. We will build on what we have done last time and put out a good performance.”
The Super Falcons will confront their Cape Verdean counterparts ahead of the 13th edition of Africa’s flagship women football championship in Morocco.
Meanwhile, other qualifiers will go down this week as road to the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024, resumes.
Tunisia and Congo kick off the first leg matches on Wednesday where the Congolese will be tasked with a tough assignment of travelling up north.
After overcoming Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania will come face to face with Togo, the same side that cruised past Djibouti with a comfortable 6-0 scoreline.
All eyes will be on the reigning champions, South Africa who face a determined Burkina Faso side that is looking at seeing themselves in the competition again after the last edition’s appearance.
Another interesting duel sees a Central African clash between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea.
