Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board, has assured that they are bent on keeping a stable league calendar going forward.
While in a chat, Elegbeleye said the stable calender helps in planning, assuring that the league board would do everything possible within its power to make the league stable.
“A lot of factors militate against a stable calender and we will ensure the matches and date are fixed to avoid an unstable calender,” he assured.
The NPFL boss stressed that a stable calender would help Nigerian teams prepare well for the season.
According to him, “The period of break and pre-season will be clearly stated. We’re going to avoid the issue of players leaving when the season is on. This will also help our teams to prepare well for African continental matches as they would have played matches in the league before the continental matches start.”
On the second round of the league, Elegbeleye said all eyes would be on all centres to ensure that the league produces a true champion.
“It’s been awesome with the performances of the teams so far and the number of away victories can get better with our resolve to create a better league.”
On the the ongoing NPFL U17 youth league, Elegbeleye said it has come to stay. “A manual pool of data base for all the players has been created. The board has all detailed information regarding all the players that participated from the zones to the group stage to the playoff and the championship proper.
“Such data as passport photographs, NIN or international passport, wing or positions and clubs of the players are already documented. This will help for easy reference and continuity. The clubs and Nigeria as a whole have a lot to benefit from these sporting criteria of club licencing requirements.”
