Team Nigeria, set to depart for Gaborone, Botswana, ahead of the World Athletics Relays, with strong ambitions of securing qualification spots and podium finishes.

The 24-athlete squad, featuring a blend of emerging talents and experienced campaigners, will travel via Ethiopian Airlines with a stopover in Addis Ababa before arriving in Gaborone.

Nigeria will compete in all six relay events at the championship, scheduled to take place from May 2 – 3, 2026.

Supporting the athletes is a team of four coaches led by Gabriel Okon, the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, as the team intensifies preparations for what promises to be a highly competitive outing.
This edition of the World Relays carries added importance, serving as a qualification pathway to the World Athletics Championships and the World Athletics Ultimate Championship.

With a total of 723 athletes from 40 countries confirmed, the championship is expected to deliver fierce competition. All six defending champions from the 2025 edition will be present, alongside top relay teams from the Olympics and World Championships.

For Team Nigeria, the mission is clear, deliver strong performances, secure qualification slots, and contend for medals on the global stage.
