Olympics Qualifier: Super Falcons Need Your Support, NFF Tells Nigerians

Ahead of the second leg Olympic qualifier between the Super Falcons and the Lucy of Ethiopia, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called on Nigerians to crowd the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja to lend their support to the serial African champions.

Super Falcons played a 1-1 draw with their Ethiopian counterparts in Addis Ababa on Wednesday and will need victory in the second leg to stand a chance of progressing. The Randy Waldrum-led side made it to the round of 16 at the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand before bowing out, with the NFF board saying it was determined to see the team improve on the effort made at the world cup.

Speaking on this, Ibrahim Gusau, the president of NFF, however, said the football house and the team cannot do it alone and that Nigerians must show their support by coming out to the stadium to cheer the ladies.

”These ladies need the support of everybody and one of the ways Nigerians must show they support the team is by coming out to watch team and cheer them.

”This kind of support cannot be quantified and it helps the team to give their all infront of their home crowd,” Gusau stated.

The Nigeria women team last qualified for the Olympic Games fifteen years ago in 2008 and the Ibrahim Gusau-led board is keen to ensure that the former African champions once again berth at the multi-sport event taking place in Paris, France, in 2024.

A win for the Super Falcons in Abuja against the Ethiopians will see them take on either Cameroon or Uganda in the next round of the qualifying series.
