A colourful pulling-out parade ceremony was held on Monday, May 25, in honour of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Emuobo Fred Ekokotu, former head of the Nigeria Police Force Zone 11 Command, which oversees security operations in Oyo and Osun States.

The event attracted dignitaries, traditional rulers, senior police officers, community leaders, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the retired police chief for his years of dedicated service and impactful leadership in the zone.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Royal Father of the Day, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Peter Oluwole Ipadeola Ilufemiloye, Akinyooye III, described AIG Ekokotu as a diligent and pragmatic officer whose contributions to peace and security would remain unforgettable.

According to the monarch, the retired AIG demonstrated exceptional leadership and professionalism in handling communal conflicts and security challenges during his tenure.

“He came when our community was witnessing a serious communal crisis and he was able to resolve it amicably and peace restored to the area,” the monarch stated.

Oba Akinyooye III, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Osun State Traditional Council, commended the retired police chief for his commitment to justice, peacebuilding, and effective policing across the zone.

During his tenure as AIG in charge of Zone 11, AIG Ekokotu was widely recognised for promoting community policing and strengthening collaboration between security agencies. He implemented an eight-point strategic action plan focused on responsive and intelligence-driven policing, as well as robust inter-agency cooperation, including joint security efforts with the Amotekun Corps.

He also consistently advocated stronger public participation in security matters through the “Hear Something, Say Something” campaign, encouraging citizens to support law enforcement agencies with timely information capable of preventing crime and enhancing public safety.

In addition, AIG Ekokotu frequently tasked orientation and public enlightenment agencies to intensify awareness campaigns on government policies, security consciousness, and crime prevention strategies.

Guests at the ceremony praised the retired officer for his integrity, discipline, and people-oriented approach to policing, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire officers within the Nigeria Police Force and beyond.

The pulling-out parade, a long-standing police tradition held in honour of retiring senior officers, featured ceremonial processions, tributes, and celebrations marking the end of AIG Ekokotu’s distinguished career in active service.
