The thrills, frills and frenzy that greeted the return of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the weekend; that’s after nearly a month-long mid-season recess, continues today with a rearranged Matchday 16 fixtures, between Kwara United FC, and Enyimba Int’l FC of Aba, at the Kwara Sports Complex, in Ilorin.

With back-to-back defeats (1-3) away to El Zamalek SC in Cairo, and 0-2 loss to Kano Pillars FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium last midweek, the record nine-time NPFL Champions will have to be weary of a well-rested Afonja Warriors that are currently 14th in the table, with 23 points earned from 18 games.

An improbable victory for the host team, could see them climb up to 11th in the log with 26 points; while a probable victory for the Aba People’s Elephant will take their tally to 30 points, and see them hop from 9th to 5th on the log, ahead of their outstanding Day 20 fixture in Benin, against Bendel Insurance FC, which was originally to be played today, but has been moved to this midweek.

Kwara United FC, like the Benin Arsenals are well-rested, but they are in the drop zone (17th), with just 21 points, garnered from 19 games; meaning they may well add to the number of defeats on the road, Enyimba FC have had to grapple with in recent weeks.
