The General Manager of Crown Football Club of Ogbomosho, Olamide Ilupeju, says the task given to his team and the promises made to the players by Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, has helped in raising the performance of the team in this year’s Nigeria National League (NNL) season.
In a chat with Sportsday on Saturday after their 2-1 away win against Enugu-based side, Ijele Football Club, in a Week 18 match at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Ilupeju said: “I want to first of all thank God Almighty for giving us the opportunity to do well this season. I also dedicate our excellent outing so far to Governor Seyi Makinde for his unalloyed support to the team”.
“Governor Makinde had promised to support the club in any capacity once the team gets promotion from the lower division. That has really bouyed the confidence of the players and officials. I thank him very much”.
I won’t also fail to appreciate the Commissioner for Sports for his dedication and hardwork to ensure the team gets to this stage this season”.
Speaking further, Ilupeju said the 2-1 win in their last away game of the 2024/2025 season in Enugu was not an easy job, as he commended the players for the result.
“To take 3points from an away game is not an easy task, and we are happy with the outcome of the match. Our players showed the quality they are made of and they delivered”.
With the final game of the season next in their home ground, the general manager hinted that they would prepare adequately well to end the regular season on a high.
“We are going home to make everything possible to win because this season we haven’t lost any game on our home turf. Our boys always give their 150% performance”.
Crown Football Club presently occupies second spot in Group A of the Southern teams in the NNL with 36 points after playing 18 games as Warri Wolves are topping the chart with 39 points after playing 17 matches (as at the time of filing this report).
The position of the two top teams in Group A has giving them the tickets to qualify for the Super 8 tournament which will take place after the regular season.
