Seven Falcons players have been nominated in the 2023 CAF Women Footballer Of the Year awards.
Current holder, Assist Oshoala will face stern competition from six other Super Falcons players as CAF nominates Chiamaka Nnadozie (Paris FC), Tony Payne (Sevilla), Christy Ucheibe (Benfica), Osinachi Ohale (Pachuca), Rasheedat Ajibade (Atletico Madrid) and Uchenna Kanu (Racing Louisville) for the Player of the Year award.
Nnadozie was also named as one of the nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Year award following her outstanding performances for the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and her club side, Paris FC of France.
Super Falcons’ Esther Ajakaye made the list for the Young player of the Year.
Ajakaye debuted for Nigeria in the first leg of the 2024 Olympics qualifier against Ethopia in less than 16 months after she featured for the Falconets at the U17 FIFA World Cup.
She will be competing with fellow compatriots, Deborah Abiodun and Oluwatosin Demehin for the Young Player of the Year category.
The head coach of the Super Falcons, Randy Waldrum is nominated for the Coach of the Year after an impressive Women World Cup campaign by his team.
The Nigeria Women National Team, the Super Falcons will battle Burkina Faso, Burundi, Ghana, Malawi, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia for the Women’s National Team of the Year.
The Awards Gala is slated for 11 December 2023 in Marrakech, Morocco.
