Ahead of their travel for the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is planing a special farewell dinner for the serial African champions, the Super Falcons.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, July 1, at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. Notable members of the NFF Executive Committee are expected to be present at the occasion.
Following the farewell dinner, Randy Waldrum’s squad, comprising 23 players and officials, will embark on a 15-day final training camp in Australia.
The camp will serve as their last preparation phase before the commencement of the Women’s World Cup on July 20.
This edition marks Nigeria’s ninth appearance in the premier women’s football tournament, and they have been placed in Group B alongside Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
The Super Falcons will kick off their campaign against Canada at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium on July 21.
Subsequently, they will face the Matildas of Australia on July 27 at Lang Park in Brisbane before returning to Melbourne for their final group-stage match against Ireland.
Nigeria will bank on the talents of Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala, Atletico Madrid ace Rasheedat Ajibade, and China-based striker Desire Oparanozie among others, to make a lasting impression at the World Cup.
