NBBofC Scribe, Remi Aboderin has commended the organizers of the historic boxing event ‘CHAOS IN THE RING’ held on Independence Day at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos, by a stacked card promoted by Balmoral Group Promotions in partnership with Amir Khan Promotions.Aboderin, who has significant international experience in boxing administration as the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) and President of the West African Boxing Union (WABU), said in a chat with newsmen in Lagos that a boxing show in Nigeria featuring Brandon Glanton versus Rocky Fielding and Richard Commey, tagged ‘returns to Africa,’ should be commended. He stressed that this event comes at a time when professional boxing in Nigeria is on the rise, with concerted efforts of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control taking professional boxing around all the geopolitical zones of the country.
Aboderin, however, advised that investing more in boxing would attract international bouts to the country, which will in turn bring economic sustainability to Nigeria. The bout, he said, holds immense promise for Nigerian boxing. By hosting an event of this caliber, Nigeria is positioning itself as a hub for professional boxing on the continent.
“I am delighted seeing what the Balmoral Group Promotions is doing to promote boxing in Nigeria. If you see youths playing soccer and other sports on the streets, you tend to walk away. But if they are fighting, you stand and watch them. This implies that there is much interest in boxing. So the youths in the streets should be encouraged to channel their talents to boxing,” he noted.

Aboderin expressed his satisfaction that potential conflicts within the boxing administration were avoided during the event. He emphasized that the board successfully intervened to prevent Mr. Olusegun Adesayan, who has been suspended by the NBBofC from officiating boxing bouts, from interfering in the event’s proceedings.
