The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and African Logistics Global (AGL) held a meeting in Apapa, Lagos, to discuss cooperation and partnership opportunities. The MWUN leaders were led by President-General Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, while the AGL team was headed by the Managing Director.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi recently with his Shipping Branch executives paid a courtesy visit to the management of African Logistics Global (AGL), a shipping company, situated at Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.

The Union contingents led by the PG were warmly received by the Managing Director of the bluechip company, who congratulated the newly elected executives of the Union, and appreciated them for the enduring mutual working relationship both organizations had continued to maintain and enjoy over the years in the maritme sector. She prayed that that synergy of industrial cooperation will continue to find its bearings with this crop of leadership, which has come on board, after their victory in the recent election concluded in Lagos.

Comrade Bunu thanked the MD of AGL and her management team, while acknowledging them, stressing that it was his first time hearing employers of labour praising and commending a labour Union, (the Maritme Workers Union of Nigeria), having been very supportive and cooperative in every sense of it in the maritme industry for humanly projecting the face of the Union with the dignity of labour in all ramifications.

The foremost Maritme Labour leader, Comrade Bunu in the country, thanked the management of AGL for their pragmatic support for the Union at all times, having been doing all they do in the spirit of comradeship, praying that the spirit would never fade.

The veteran Sailor and Astute Administrator, further expressed the Union’s appreciation to the management of AGL for their genuine efforts and benevolence towards the leadership of the Maritme Workers Union of Nigeria, whose partnership with AGL has never been in doubt. The Union has always remained formidable, strong, resilient, and committed to the pact of both bodies, saying that MWUN is ever determined to keep the pact waxing stronger for the interest of both organizations in the sector yearly.

The Shipping Branch President, Comrade Tajudeen Abass spoke in like manner of the PG, appreciating the female MD and her entire management for their longstanding relationship with the Union.

He also appreciated the management for recognizing the in-house Union; which AGL said has been very supportive and cooperative in its dealing with the company; praying that if there are issues, the management should always apply “the Union and Management” procedures of settling internally; given the fact that there are arms of the Union beginning from the Unit to the District transcending through the Branch and to the National, which is the highest decision making organ. He, however, pleaded that if there’s any cause for rift, it should be settled amicably and where it’s becoming knotty, the highest enchelon of the Union should get iivolved for quick and immediate resolution of such issues for the interest of both organizations.

Comrade Abass thanked AGL for supporting the workers for both the internal and international trainings; appealing that such Industrial synergy for growth, and development should continue; reminding management that this year 2025, is already winding down and as Comrades in partnership, he prays that this year’s bumper package for the workers would hit the roof, while thanking the management in advance for the usual magnimity during the Yuletide.

The Human Resource Manager of the Shipping outfit, Mrs. Okwose, admitted that there’s no time management and union won’t have issues, and won’t deny that, as they have always have issues with the in-house Union; saying that when such occurs, it has always been resolved for the betterment of the employees and the employers nothing that both can’t divorce each other as partners on same course.

Crisis as it were, is a very common trait in the industrial world, AGL is not an exception. However, as new leaders, we expect changes and of course, positive changes towards the progress of your members, who are in our employ; also for the good of the employers as well, counting on our existing mutual relationships over the years, which is still running.

We also believe in the good spirit of the in-house Union for the supportive roles they play towards the continuous rolling of the AGL productive wheel of progress. We accord them that workers and employers relationship respect in terms of discipline and commitment towards duty all the time.

As much as we are concerned, we can always dialogue with each other to resolve issues and make ourselves available to the new President-General of the Union, knowing full well we are partners in progress in the industry.

I thank you all for this all important visit, believing that this occasion will further boost our friendship as Comrades as both bodies keep sojourning on the paths of progress.
