A former Captain of the Green Eagles of Nigeria, Chief Segun Odegbami was host of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sportsville Communication Services, Frank Ilaboya on Sunday, and top on the agenda was putting the gloss on the plans to have a historic, memorable and very successful awards ceremony.
We can also confirm that Chief Odegbami, a member of the Order of the Niger (OON) has also been confirmed as Chairman the the Awards Ceremony, which Mr. Ilaboya, an ace sportscaster has on sever occasions referred to as splendid, but compelling
    awards ceremony.
The eagerly anticipated awards ceremony which is to fete exceptional performances in sports, and give special recognition to individual who have been exceptional in supporting the nation’s athletes and sports ecosystem, is scheduled for next Friday, that’s March 1st, 2024 at the Eko Club, in Surulere Lagos.
The meeting which held at the Lagos residence of Chief Odegbami in Banana Island, was a reunion of some sort, being that the duo had not met in two years.
Odegbami, a man of many hats, who was christened  mathematical Odegbami is reported to have created a very convivial atmosphere, laced with plenty of football talks, especially the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations and politics, all through the duration of the gathering, and that included a sumptuous lunch served by his chef.
The cover of the award brochure first caught the attention of the former Green Eagles Skipper. “Franklin, (that’s what the host, Big Sheg calls him), “this cover looks good, I love the design, well-done! He continued, “but how are you coping with the current economic situation in the country, in terms of financing this huge project,” he asked with genuine interest.
In his response, Ilaboya began, as Big Sheg listened with rapt attention, and needed his head in approval intermittently and when Ilaboya was done!
Being a stickler of excellence when it comes to work, Odegbami added; “I trust you to do a good job, you have been a man of class and disciplined too, with good focus. Congratulations ahead!”
For those that do not know, or can’t quite remember, Segun Odegbami gave Frank Ilaboya the break through he had on TV when he offered the seasoned analyst employment to work with him in 1996 as a TV reporter and eventually, as a presenter.
Mr. Ilaboya worked with Chief Odegbami at Worldwide Sports Ltd then. Since then, TV transformed the life of the Sportsville CEO life and today, Mr. Ilaboya owe this to his mentor, Big Sheg. And Sportsville Recognitions Awards Committee, considers working with Chief Odegbami, who is now a media mogul, among other endeavors, a big and
    rare privilege.
