The NBBF president, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida,In his opening remarks expressed total satisfaction with the overall performance of the federation in 2024, having performed beyond expectations, despite the huge challenges the Board faced with the paucity of funds. He also thanked the staff and Board of the NBBF for their moral, and financial support towards the successes recorded by the federation during the year under review.

The President also thanked the then Federal Ministry of Sports Development, under the leadership of Sen. John Owan Eno, for the cordial and harmonious working relationship that existed, which propelled the Federation into achieving the great things it achieved, despite the funding challenges the Federation faced for international tournaments, and express confidence that the Federation has started to enjoy an unprecedented support from the new leadership of the National Sports commission headed by the Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko, and the DG Mr. Bukola Olopade.

Engr Kida also once again thanked President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu for their support, reception and cash reward given to the D’Tigress after winning the Afrobasket championship for a third consecutive time.

The president briefed the board members of the interface between the new leadership of the NSC and all the Sports Federations Presidents and he commended the leadership of the National Sports Commission on the new thrust to reposition sports in Nigeria for greater performance through the visionary levers of Reset, Refocus and Relaunch blueprint. He expressed the hope that the Nigeria Basketball Federation will receive adequate attention towards proper and timely funding for its programs in order to surpass previous achievements.

The Board reviewed and approved the calendar of events for the year 2025. The Board approved the attending budget to enable proper planning in consultation with the relevant stakeholders, and monitoring to ensure success of its programs.

The Board applauded the strong performances of the Nigeria’s female senior national team, the D’Tigress, at the 2024 Paris Olympics Games, and noted that such performance would always serve as the corner stone for future performances of the national teams, even as the D’Tigress return to defend African Championship, the Afrobasket, in 2025.

The Board also noted, with satisfaction, the performance of the U16 national female basketball team, J’Tigress, at the World cup qualifiers in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they picked one of the two tickets to represent Africa at the World Championships slated for Brno, Czech, in 2025, and called for early preparations and timely release of funds for effective participation.

The Board also called for support and early intervention in preparation to enable Nigeria’s senior male basketball team, D’Tigers, prepare well and participate at the second window qualifiers for the coming AfroBasket championship in 2025.

The Board also reviewed the 2024 audited statements of accounts of the federation, as was presented, and approved, with a plea for the National Sports Commission (NSC) to intervene swiftly and ensure the prompt payment of all of the Federation’s outstanding liabilities in order to meet its obligations.

The Board also approved to hold its 2024 Annual General Assembly the first quarter of 2025. Details of the exact date and location shall be conveyed to all relevant stakeholders according to stipulations of the NBBF statues.
