Stanley Eguma, the coach of Rivers United, has revealed that they did everything to upstage their hosts on Sunday, the Young African of Tanzania.

The Tanzanian side progressed to the semifinal of the CAF Confederation Cup after holding the Nigeria champions to a goalless draw in Dare Salam on Sunday.

They qualified for the last four on 2-0 aggregate scoreline, having secured a 0-2 win in the first leg played in Nigeria.

Eguma confirmed that they lost the game in Nigeria.

“Unfortunately, we have to drop out of the competition but I want to say this, Nigerians have a lot of hope for us. When we lost 2-0 in Nigeria, that was when we lost the game, on Sunday, they prevented us from scoring.

“In the first half, we tried out best to see if we can get a goal early in the game but we couldn’t get it.

“In the second half, we tried to open our attack from the flanks, we created some crosses that we thought should get us the goals and we couldn’t.

“We lost all our chances even on the counter-attack we could not build anything and in the end, we played a goalless draw.

“Like I said we lost this game in Nigeria but it’s a lesson for us, next time we have to correct our mistakes”, he said.
