Bendel Insurance have emerged winners of the 2023 Nigeria Federation Cup after beating six-time champions Enugu Rangers 1-0 in the final played at the Stephen Kasha Stadium, Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday.
Imade Osarenkhoe scored from the spot just before half-time after a Rangers defender was judged to have handled the ball in the penalty area, the player was subsequently sent off having picked up his second yellow card of the game.
It’s the 4th FA Cup title for the Monday Odigie-led Insurance team after winning the title in 1972, 1978, and 1980 and ended their wait for a major title since 1995 when they won the West African Club Championship
With their win, Bendel Insurance will get the N15million prize money and would also be representing Nigeria in the CAF Confederation Cup next season while Rangers will get N7.5m as the runners-up.
