The ever-evolving Association of Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS) grew in size during the week, with the establishment of a new Chapter in Ekiti State, South West Nigeria.

Performing the historic inauguration, alongside a Vice President of the body, Hajia Hadiza Ahmed in Ado Ekiti; founder of NAWIS, professor emeritus Florence Adeyanju swore-in the brand new Executive Committee of the chapter, with Dr. Adefunke Aina as the chairperson.

NAWIS is the umbrella body of the nation’s former and current sports women, both in Nigeria and in the diaspora; that puts premium in the welfare of its members, while supporting and uplifting the issues affecting the girl child in sports.

The well-attended event at the auditorium of the Faculty of Science, Ekiti State University, in Ado-Ekitti was also an avenue to showcase the group as one united fraternity, creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and building the confidence level of members; while empowering young girls to reach their God-given potential in sports.

The newly inaugurated executive team also has Mrs. O. M. Adeyemo (Assistant Chairman I) and Mrs. Adediran (Assistant Chairman II). Other are Mrs. M. O. Adeoye (Secretary), Mrs. R. Adediran (Assistant Secretary), Mrs. Abe (Treasurer), Olori Adewumi (Financial Secretary), Mrs. Bello (Public Relations Officer), Mrs. Ajayi (Assistant PRO), Mrs. Abere (Director of Programme), Mrs. Oluwafemi Mercy (Assistant Director of Programme), Mrs. Ogundayomi Bukola (Research Director), and Mrs. Atubazi Juliet (Assistant Research Director).

With its formal inauguration, NAWIS Ekiti State Chapter is poised to deepen advocacy, expand opportunities, and champion the advancement of women and girls in sports across the state.
