No fewer than 10 girls’ secondary schools in Ibadan Oyo State are set to lock horns in the 2024 edition of the Inter-Girls Secondary School Oratory Competition organized by SheCares Charitable Foundation, A not-for-profit organisation that supports family values.

The annual oratory event, according to the convener, Helen Akpabio will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Educare Trust Nigeria, 10, Concorde Lane Aerodrome Estate, Samonda Ibadan, with the theme: Embracing and Sustaining African Values and Culture via Education.

Explaining the rationale behind the educational event, Helen Akpabio, an experienced researcher and event anchor who is skilled in coaching, team building, and public speaking, said, “the essence of organizing the event annually is to promote our culture and value amidst modernity, as our youths and teenagers are almost lost in our culture to embrace westernism.”

She stressed further that “the public speaking competition is also meant to serve as a testimonial to the importance and power of effective oral communication and the school’s commitment to elevating the art of public speaking to mainstream levels in Nigerian society, which is in keeping with its mantra of teaching the world to speak.”

She explained that, ‘SheCares’ is a feminine outfit, hence the event being streamlined to only girls’ secondary schools.
