—- Commends Team Abia’s Outing At National Sports Festival

Abia state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, has disclosed that the state government have concluded plans to build a new 40,000 capacity world class stadium in Umuahia, the state capital.

In an exclusive chat with Sportsday on Monday, Ananaba hinted that the edifice will be able to house a lot of facilities that can host international sporting activities like football, swimming, track and field, basketball, boxing, tennis, table tennis and many others.

“Recently, a team of foreign experts visited the state to carry out feasibility study in readiness for the commencement of the stadium construction”.

“I want to assure you that upon completion, the project will have the capacity of hosting CAF competitions and other sporting events”. “It will also serve as an economic hub center to Abians who will have the chance of carrying out profitable businesses when completed”.

The Commissioner attributed the plan to have a world class stadium to the developmental strides of the state governor, Alex Otti, as well as his efforts to take Abia sports to an enviable height.

“Let me use this opportunity to appreciate and thank His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti for his support and encouragement to sports development”. “What his Excellency has done for sports under his administration is unprecedented”.

In addition, Ananaba has commended the performance of Team Abia at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Ogun State.

“Abia is doing well and representing the South East very well. I hope we will continue to win medals”.

“This is history making knowing fully well that Abia has never had it so good to be among the top 10 states on the.medala table”. “I’m proud of the state contingent for making this dream happen”.

Commissioner Ananaba thanked Governor Otti for giving total support to the athletes to do well.

“I also want to thank our amiable governor for his support in the sports sector.

“Making it to 9th position to become the best South East state at the National Sports Festival is just an attestation to the fact that his Excellency’s drive for excellence is unrivaled”.

“We thank him so much for this moment of joy he has brought to the state and its people. We are grateful your Excellency”, says Ananaba.

Meanwhile, Abia is topping other South East states on the medals table, placing 9th overall with 10 Gold, 9 Silver, 24 Bronze, Imo takes the second spot and 16th overall with 2 Gold, 5 Silver, 13 Bronze, Anambra stays in third spot and 19th overall after winning 1 Gold, 5 Silver, 7 Bronze medals while Enugu occupies 4th position and 24th overall with 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals.
