Sinner Joins Federer and Djokovic in Elite Sunshine Double Club

    By: Osabuohien Imuetinyanosa

Jannik Sinner defeated Jiří Lehečka 6–4, 6–4 in a rain-affected final to win the Miami Open and complete the prestigious Sunshine Double.

The Italian world number two delivered an outstanding performance, winning 92% of his first-serve points and saving all three break points he faced. With this victory, Sinner completed the Sunshine Double — winning both the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open in the same season — without dropping a single set, a rare achievement in tennis.

The final was interrupted twice by heavy rain, with players forced off the court for about 90 minutes on two occasions. Despite the interruptions, Sinner remained focused and energetic, even keeping warm by casually passing a soccer ball with his team during the delays.

Sinner took control early in the match, breaking serve to lead 3–1 in the first set before comfortably closing it out. In the second set, Lehecka fought hard, saving several break points and briefly leading 4–3, but Sinner eventually broke serve at 5–4 and then served out the match to win the championship.

This victory places Sinner among an elite group of players who have completed the Sunshine Double, including: Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic,, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras,, Jim Courier, Michael Chang, and Marcelo Ríos.

He is also the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back, confirming his dominance on the ATP Tour.

Sinner said after the match that he was extremely happy with the achievement and proud of the work his team had put in to reach this level.
