Work on a new National Sports Commission Act, which when ready, will pave the way for the constitution of a New Board of the NSC, is in progress and receiving the attention it requires.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko stated this when the leadership of the National Association of Physical, Health Education, Research, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD), led by Professor Emeritus Florence Adeyanju paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
“I have received already, your presentation, the commission is running, but there are many other things that we need to update in the Sports Commission work, for us to be able to achieve the set objectives of rejuvenating Sports in Nigeria, and creating a sports economy as envisaged by President Bola Tinubu (GCFR), and for sure, we are going to have more conversation on the presentation you sent to me, and I think we all agree that there’s need to get a new NSC Act passed, and signed into law, so that the Board can be well constituted”. Dikko asserted.
Dikko, a former 2nd President of the Nigeria Football Federation added that he intends to bring real professionals, especially those from NAPHER-SD to man several departments in the Commission and help in building the capacity of the commission’s workforce, in the Junior cadre.
Earlier, the President of NAPHER-SD, Professor Adeyanju recounted how the body championed the advocacy for the restoration of the NSC, and pledged its readiness to help Mallam Dikko and the soon-to-be-constituted NSC Board succeed.
Professor Adeyanyu further also took time to outline areas the association can contribute to the development of sports in the country and the activities of the National Sports Commission.
“This association is an asset to your administration, NAPHER-SD has membership in and outside Nigeria, who are into sports administration, management, health and fitness, physical education, sports science, sports medicine, and sports coaching; just to name a few. They’re needed at community centers, military and paramilitary outfits, government and non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and public service; where they contribute their expertise to boost grassroots and elite sports development. We were in the forefront of the advocacy for the return of the NSC, and we are happy to partner with you in the big task ahead”.
Present at the also at the visit were Dr. Mohammed Sanusi 1st Vice President of NAPHER-SD, Prof. Franz Atare Secretary General of the association, and Otumba Sylvester Ikuejamoye Spokesman of the body, among others.
The group later paid a similar goodwill visit on one of their own, Kayode Adeniyi and congratulated him on his recent promotion as the General Manager NTA Sports.
