Organizers of the 2023 FIBA Zone 3 Women’s Basketball Championship, have asserted that the qualifiers billed to hold in Abuja, will go on as planned despite the seeming withdrawal of two of the sides.
The five teams that were to compete at the championship, are:
    1. Nigeria Customs (Nigeria)
    2. Mountain of Fire & Miracles (Nigeria)
    3. Air Warriors (Nigeria)
    4. ASPAC Cotonou (Benin Republic) and
    5. Elan Coton (Benin Republic).
But according to Joe Apu, the Secretary FIBA Africa Zone 3 Air Warriors of Nigeria, who were to play on a non-scoring basis, and Elan Coton of Cotonou, from the Republic of Benin, did not show up.
Apu described their absence as disappointing, “being that FIBA Zone 3, knew that having all five teams in Abuja, would have created the ideal competitive atmosphere”
According to him, the remaining three teams will between December 3 and 5, at the MO Arena, in Wuse Abuja; battle for the two available slots for the continental finals.
The Pre-March or technical meeting was held on Saturday; ahead of the games that will be played on Round Robin bases.
The two top teams will automatically qualify to play in the FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball League, which is to take place in the city of Alexandria, Egypt, from December 11-19, 2023.
