Nigeria’s Senior Women’s Cricket team, the Female Yellow-Greens, will today in Windhoek battle Zimbabwe in their final group game of the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier.
With one win against Sierra Leone and a loss to host Namibia, Nigeria is currently 2nd in Group A on net run rate; but 2 points adrift of log leaders, Zimbabwe who are top with 4 points.
Speaking after the defeat to Namibia, Captain of the Female Yellow-Greens, Peculiar Agboya said she and her teammates are determined to bounce back from Monday’s defeat, stronger in today’s fixture.
“Let me concede that our batting didn’t go as planned from the beginning, and the opponents [Namibia] turned on the pressure against us, we need to fix that going forward, and against Zimbabwe on Wednesday, we will not dwell too much on the loss, because we still have a chance to qualify, and our spirits have to be high, we also need to stay positive to achieve our goal”, the lanky Captain said.
This fixture, against Zimbabwe, a team considered a powerhouse in both the Southern Africa region, and on the continent, is crucial as Nigeria look to secure a semi-final slot and continue their journey towards World Cup qualification.
