Enugu State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Honourable Uche Ugwu, has reiterated his desire to continue to support sports development at the grassroots level, as a way of addressing the involvement of youths in different vices, by taking them off the streets through their engagement and participation in sporting activities.

Ugwu disclosed this on Tuesday when the Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), South-East zone, Frankie Omokhua, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the House of Assembly complex.

Speaking further on the efforts being put in place by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to support and encourage sports development, the Speaker informed members of the association about the enactment of two major bills aimed at improving sports in the state, which has passed second reading.

”I want to specially welcome the Vice President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), South-East zone, to my office”.

“This visit is heart-warming at a time like this when all efforts are geared towards making sure that the development of sports in the state is given proper and deserved attention”.

”It’s interesting to let you know that presently we are looking at two bills which will help create open doors for sports development in the state”.

“They include a bill for the youths to be able to access funds through sports as well as sports development bill.

Ugwu believes that when finally passed into law, the bills will bring a lot of opportunities for the youths to excel significantly.

On his part, Omokhua thanked the Speaker for accepting to host him and members of his entourage. He praised his determination to help improve the growth of youth empowerment in Enugu state through the various sporting activities he has put in place under his leadership.

”Moreso, we want to appreciate your drive and the unalloyed support you have shown for sports in Enugu state.

”I want to enjoin you not to relent in your efforts as such has been one of the qualities that has truly endeared you to the young and old people who see you as a rallying point to improve the life of the youths”.

The SWAN Vice President also called on Ugwu to partner with the association to chart a better synergy to uplift sports development in the state.

‘As an association that holds you in high esteem, we would want to solicit your support for our activities in the South-East, especially in Enugu state in order to project your vision and that of Governor Mbah”.

Members who accompanied the South-East number one SWAN personality were Enugu SWAN Chairman, Gideon Iwueke, ex-Official member, Foster Chime and Richie Asiegbu.
