Gianluca Prestianni, the highly rated 20-year-old winger of S.L. Benfica, has been sanctioned with a six-match suspension by UEFA following a disciplinary investigation into offensive conduct during a UEFA Champions League play-off clash in Lisbon.p

The punishment stems from discriminatory language reportedly directed at Vinícius Júnior of Real Madrid, an incident that has drawn firm condemnation and triggered swift action from European football authorities determined to uphold standards of respect and inclusion.

In an official communication, Benfica confirmed receipt of UEFA’s ruling, stating that the sanction relates specifically to the use of homophobic language during the encounter. The club acknowledged the decision while outlining the structure of the imposed disciplinary measures.

UEFA’s verdict stipulates a six-match ban, three of which are suspended over a two-year probationary period, contingent on the player’s future behavior. Of the immediate three-match suspension, one fixture has already been served, leaving two remaining matches to be completed.

The outstanding matches must be served in UEFA competitions or, if applicable, during international duty with Argentina under the jurisdiction of FIFA, as the case reinforces UEFA’s uncompromising stance against all forms of discriminatory conduct in the game.
