Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich have now started talks to sign David Raya – who is said to be a target for Chelsea. That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Spain international actually seems like a realistic signing for Chelsea this summer, as Brentford have already signed a replacement for him in Mark Flekken.
That was mainly due to the fact Tottenham had agreed personal terms with Raya – again according to Romano – although Spurs balked at the £40m asking price, and eventually signed Guglielmo Vicario instead.
It was Ben Jacobs who claimed that Chelsea have spoken about a move for the Brentford glovesman, while another respected journalist in Dean Jones added that the 27-year-old is a target for the Blues.
Now – however – Mauricio Pochettino could miss out on Raya to Tuchel.
Romano believes Bayern Munich have started negotiations to sign the Brentford No.1 as those at the Allianz Arena attempt to find a long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer.
Bayern Munich could also lose Yann Sommer to Inter Milan.
Romano adds that the Switzerland international is a priority for the Italian giants after they sold Andre Onana to Manchester United.
As aforesaid, Raya is probably one of the most attainable goalkeepers out there for Chelsea this summer after Brentford already signed a replacement, so the Blues need to make a decision.
Some outlets – including Sky Sports – have claimed that Pochettino is happy to start the 2023/24 campaign with Kepa Arrizabalaga as his No.1 at Stamford Bridge.
However, the Spaniard has been very shaky in recent seasons, and he could certainly be upgraded on.
Therefore, Chelsea have to decide whether they truly want a new goalkeeper or not, as Bayern Munich step up their pursuit of Raya.
