The Nigeria Customs Service’s Tincan Island Port Command has pledged to prioritize trade facilitation and reduce cargo delays following a ₦25.9 billion revenue increase in January 2026. Comptroller Frank Onyeka, the Customs Area Controller, revealed that the command generated ₦145.9 billion in January, up from ₦116.412 billion in the same period last year.
Onyeka emphasized that the command aims to simplify procedures for port users and become a trade enabler in 2026. “We are going to facilitate trade, we are going to make it more easier for the trading public,” he stated.
The CAC attributed the improved performance to the support of Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and stressed the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to minimize cargo dwell time. “Engagement with stakeholders is key… cargo delay will be brought to the barest minimum,” he said.
Onyeka assured that security considerations would remain paramount, with flagged consignments undergoing physical examination to ensure national security isn’t compromised. He also commended journalists for their professionalism and encouraged fact-based reporting.
