At least five people have been injured after a teen wearing a skeletal mask, helmet, and a ‘bulletproof vest’ slashed multiple people in the city of Eskisehir Monday.
The 18-year-old suspect, armed with a long knife, broadcast the attack at the tea garden of the Tepebaşı mosque on X.
The suspected attacker did not anything during the more than two minute graphic clip, only heavy breathing can be heard in the footage in which the suspect runs through a park, train station, and along the streets randomly slashing at people.
The teenager was detained following a police chase, according to the Eskisehir governor’s office.
The five injured people were hospitalized and two of them were in serious condition, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency. The assailant was also carrying an axe but did not appear to have used it.
Images he had taken of himself show that he also wore goggles over his mask, completely concealing his face
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said an investigation had begun, while HaberTurk and other media reported the assailant is believed to have been influenced by a video game.
