Teams Ondo, FCT & Osun Dictate The Pace, As BESS 2024 Enters Business Phase

The inaugural edition of the Basic Education Schools Sports Festival (BESS 2024), which began last Friday in Abuja, is now at its business end, with some of the 25 states taking part in the competition, open to Primary and Junior Secondary Schools children, aged 13 and under already celebrating the medals they have won.
In Track and Field events so far concluded, Rivers State won Gold in the Long Jump for Girls, just ahead of Niger-Delta rivals, Bayelsa State which won the Silver, while Kaduna State took the Bronze medal.
Bayelsa State improved on their performances to win the Gold medal in Long Jump for Boys, Anambara State got the Silver; while Lagos State completed the podium places, by taking the Bronze medal.
Hosts of the fiesta, Team FCT scooped the Silver in Volleyball for Girls, behind Kaduna State winner of the Gold, while the Bronze medal went to Borno State.
The Gold medal in mixed doubles Table Tennis was won by the pair of Michael & Semilore from Ondo State; Team FCT’s Jeftan & Sharon settled for the Silver; while Destiny & Abasi from Akwa Ibom State, as well as the pair of Faseun & Oyediran from Osun State were awarded the Bronze medals.
Table Tennis Doubles, Girls Gold medal, went to the Sharon sisters from the FCT, they Silver medal was taken by Idim & Abasi from Akwa Ibom State; Ondo State and Osun State were awarded the Bronze medals.
The Table Tennis Doubles for Boys went to the Ondo State pair of Micheal & Faleye. Akwa Ibom’s Sunday & Destiny picked the Silver; while Anthony & Abubakar of the FCT; and Faseun & Abdulsamad of Osun State were awarded the Bronze medals.
Abasi of Akwa Ibom won the Table Tennis Girls Singles Gold medal, Ekiti State’s Kolade got the Silver; while the Bronze medals were awarded to Ogungbe (Ondo) and Idim (Akwa Ibom).
The Boys Singles Gold in Table Tennis was won by Faseun from Osun State; Akwa Ibom’s Destiny settled for the Silver, while Ondo State’s Faleye and Akwa Ibom’s Sunday claimed the Bronze medals.
