Nigeria’s first batch of athletes and officials have touched down in Angola, gearing up for the 4th Africa Youth Games (AYG) Luanda 2025.

The contingent, comprising 86 talented youngsters, will compete in 12 sports, including athletics, badminton, boxing, and weightlifting, among others.

This premier youth multi-sport event, happening from December 10 to 20, 2025, aims to promote Olympic values, nurture emerging talents, and foster unity among African nations. With Angola hosting for the first time, the games promises to be in an electrifying atmosphere.

The Africa Youth Games (AYG), scheduled to hold from December 10 to 20, 2025, mark a historic moment as Angola becomes the first Lusophone nation to host the Games.

The event will unfold across six host cities, including Luanda, Benguela, and Bengo, bringing together young talents aged 14 to 17 from up to 54 African countries.

The National Sports Commission stated that the Africa Youth Games serve as a developmental platform aimed at:

    – Promoting sport and youth engagement across the continent,
    Identifying and nurturing emerging talent,
    – Preparing young athletes for major global competitions, including acting as qualifiers for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, and
    – Fostering unity, cultural exchange, and integration among African nations.

The National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) expressed confidence in Team Nigeria’s preparation and performance prospects of shining bright in Angola.
