Anthony Joshua’s knockout win over Jake Paul in Miami came with a hefty price tag – a whopping $66 million tax bill!
The British-Nigerian heavyweight champ earned a record $140 million for the fight, but Uncle Sam and HMRC are taking a big chunk of it.
Joshua owes 37% federal income tax in the US, which is around $52 million. Then, he’ll pay $11.3 million to HMRC in the UK, plus $2.8 million in National Insurance contributions.
That leaves him with about $74 million, still a massive payday, but less than Jake Paul’s take-home pay.
The irony is, Joshua won the fight, but Paul might end up with more cash. Paul only pays US federal taxes, so he’ll keep more of his $140 million purse.
Joshua’s situation highlights the complexities of international tax laws and the financial realities of being a global sports star.
