The Director General of the Southwest Youth Development Initiative (SYDI), Otunba Ayodeji Famoroti, alongside the Southwest Zonal Chairman of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Amb. Samuel Eniola Adams, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, following the recent mass abduction in Ahoro-Esinle community of Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The visit was prompted by growing concerns over the tragic incident in which armed men reportedly abducted 39 students, seven teachers, and several residents of the community, an attack that has sparked fear and panic across the area.
Speaking during the visit, the two youth-focused groups expressed deep concern over the safety and wellbeing of the kidnapped victims, particularly the children, whom they described as the future leaders of the nation.
Otunba Famoroti and Amb. Adams assured the police command of their readiness to collaborate in supporting security efforts, especially in the area of intelligence gathering and other relevant assistance aimed at tackling insecurity and ensuring the safe return of the abducted victims.
They emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing security challenges, noting that community participation and strategic collaboration with law enforcement agencies remain crucial in combating criminal activities across the Southwest region.
In his response, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, appreciated the gesture and commitment shown by the organizations. He welcomed their willingness to partner with the command, particularly in intelligence gathering, which he described as vital in strengthening security operations and curbing criminal activities in the state.
The Police Commissioner further reassured residents of the command’s commitment to securing lives and property while intensifying efforts to rescue the abducted victims and restore peace in the affected community.
