The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on Tanzania’s Taifa Stars in their Group C opener at the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) today at 6:30 PM local time in Fès, Morocco. This is a crucial match for Nigeria, aiming to kickstart their campaign with a win.

Coach Eric Chelle’s men are favorites to win, given Nigeria’s rich AFCON history – they’ve participated in 20 editions, clinched three titles, and played 104 matches..

Key players to watch include Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Wilfred Ndidi (new captain), and Stanley Nwabali in goal .

Taifa Stars, coached by Miguel Gamondi, are underdogs but aren’t intimidated. They’re making their fourth AFCON appearance and have experienced players like Mbwana Samatta and Simon Msuva.

The match will be officiated by Mauritania’s Dahane Beida, with Nigeria looking to replicate their 1980 AFCON win over Tanzania (3-1).
