The Super Eagles of Nigeria dominated Uganda 3-1 in their final Group C match at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco, showcasing their superiority. Paul Onuachu opened the scoring in the 28th minute, poking home a low cross from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. Uganda’s goalkeeper Denis Onyango had initially denied the strike, but Onuachu’s finish gave Nigeria the lead.After the break, Uganda’s substitute goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off for handling the ball outside the box, and Nigeria capitalized on the numerical advantage. Raphael Onyedika scored twice, in the 62nd and 67th minutes, both times assisted by Samuel Chukwueze, putting Nigeria firmly in control.

Uganda pulled one back in the 75th minute through Rogers Mato, who coolly chipped the ball over Francis Uzoho.

The victory secured Nigeria’s top spot in Group C with a perfect nine points. Coach Eric Chelle made eight changes to the lineup, giving opportunities to players like Ryan Alebiosu and Tochukwu Nnadi. Victor Osimhen, who captained the side, played a crucial role in Nigeria’s attack, although he didn’t score.

As Nigeria progresses in AFCON 2025, they’ll face the third-placed team in Group F in the round of 16 on January 5. Likely opponents include Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, or Mozambique
