Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo, visited Enugu State Governor, Barrister Peter Mbah, on Wednesday.
The CFR Cluj of Romania ace defender was accompanied by the General Manager of Rangers International FC, Amobi Ezeaku, to brief the governor on his proposed scouting project for Enugu and other states in the South East.Omeruo used the visit to inaundate Governor Mbah about the initiative which is aimed at identifying and nurturing young football talents across the state and the region.
While commending Omeruo’s vision and dedication to youth and grassroots football development, Governor Mbah assured him of the full support of the Enugu State Government.
Earlier on Wednesday, Omeruo was also a guest to players and officials of Rangers International at their camp base in Enugu.
In a chat with Sportsday during the visit, Omeruo says the progress that has been attained by the Flying Antelopes since Barrister Amobi Ezeaku took over as the General Manager, and his love for grassroots football contributed to the visit.
“Firstly, I’m visiting because Amobi Ezeaku as the General Manager of Rangers is a good friend of mine, coupled with the fact that I have been seeing a lot of progress in the team since he took over”.
“Also, I’m here because of the love I have for grassroots football and the National League, to see the facilities, the players, and share my experiences with them as well as give them some words of encouragement because football can be one of the depressing careers. Sometimes, you think it’s not working out and would want to give up”.
“So, it’s important to tell them that a lot of us have gone through that, and at the end of the day hardwork would win”.
While calling on other Nigerian players based abroad to show attention for the local lads to excel, the AFCON winner said such gesture would help to boost the confidence and morale of players back home.
“I think it’s important for my colleagues to always pay visits and show support to home-based players when they can, though, our career can be hectic and busy, but, whenever they have the opportunity to visit our local clubs I think that would boost the career of the players and give hope to most of them that are almost losing hope, and make them to keep believing and moving”.
Omeruo disclosed the plans he is presently working on to give back to humanity.
“For me, the only thing I want to do is to help other players get the same opportunity and even better opportunities that I had growing up, striving to go out there and play in Europe”.
“There are projects I’m working on at the moment. I met with Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Tuesday and asked me to support a scouting project to bring more opportunities to our players locally”.
“I think this is one thing I have passion for, and I strongly believe I have the connection and reach to make it happen”, concludes Omeruo
