…We’re Proud of What the Race Has Achieved – Says Ilaboya

Sportsville Communications has thrown its weight behind the 11th edition of the annual Okpekpe International 10km Road Race, pledging massive publicity support for Nigeria’s only World Athletics Gold Label Road Race.

Speaking during the unveiling of Sportsville’s support for the race, the Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Frank Ilaboya, lauded the remarkable impact the competition has made on the host community, Edo State, and Nigeria as a whole.

“I have attended all the editions of the race since its inception and I must say I am very proud of the impact the Okpekpe Race has made within the immediate community of Okpekpe, Edo State, and the country as a whole,” Ilaboya stated.

“Today, the once sleepy village of Okpekpe has gained global recognition courtesy of this race. One must commend the initiator, Mike Itemuagbor, for this great vision and consistency over the years.”

Hon. Ilaboya described the race as a symbol of excellence in sports organization, noting that its Gold Label status underscores its international standard and uniqueness.

“One must commend the consistency and dedication that has gone into organizing this great event. Being the only Gold Label race in Nigeria tells you everything about its uniqueness and quality,” he added.

“As a sports media organization, we are proud to be associated with this feat. We have already commenced our support by rolling out a daily countdown to the May 30 race date.”

He further explained that Sportsville’s involvement goes beyond media coverage, stressing that the company is committed to mobilizing publicity and support for an event that has become a source of pride for the Afemai people and Nigeria at large.

“We are joining the organizers to mobilize publicity for the race because it means more than just a sporting event to the Afemai people and the people of Edo State. Starting from this year, Sportsville will be actively involved in promoting the event,” he said.

Sportsville remains one of Nigeria’s longest-running independent sports television shows, having debuted in 2000. From airing solely on NTA 10 in its early years, the programme has expanded its reach to more than 18 television stations across Nigeria.

Six years ago, the organization also introduced the annual Sportsville Special Recognition Awards, further strengthening its contribution to sports development and recognition in the country.
