The power of sports, as a premium tool for unifying societies, and people of all creeds, ethnicities, political leanings, and religious beliefs; has once again been emphasized.

The pastor in charge of Nasarawa Province 3, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Oluyemi Akintoye, stated this while inaugurating a Mini Sports Centre located at the provincial headquarters, in One-Man-Village, Karu LGA.

“Nothing unites a nation more than sports; and leaders who seek to succeed should not trivialize informal arrangements. I recommend that where there’s a dispute or unrest, factor in sports and peace will return. In RCCG, and as envisioned by Pastor Adeboye, Sports is one of our key CSRs”; the Clergyman said.

The facility, named after the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye houses 8 indoor, and 4 outdoor games, including a 3×3 basketball Court with 2 rings, 2 standard table tennis boards (for males and females), 1 Volleyball Court, 2 sets of scrabble board (for males and females); footballs, basketballs, and Volleyballs, among others.

Speaking earlier, the pastor in-charge of Community Social Responsibility (CSR) of the province, Pastor Kayode John asserted that as a global church with over 190 branches worldwide, the RCCG has an undertaking to care for both the spiritual, and physical needs of its members, as well as a responsibility to engender cohesion in the community.

“The goal of the RCCG is to bridge the gap, between the churches in the province. In doing so we’re also to impart on the spiritual and physical needs of our members. Beyond that we’re to woo members of the community; and get them to access these facilities, and also have their spiritual needs catered for”; Pastor John posited.

A football competition which began on April 16 with 4 clusters, ended last Friday, with Cluster Two beating Cluster One 1-0 to be crowned champions.

Meanwhile, exhibitions for all the outdoor games, held simultaneously for 45 minutes, on Saturday morning.
