Mrs. Sabina Chikere, the Executive Director of Sports and Development Operations for Edo State, has expressed her enthusiasm for the maiden edition of the Niger Delta Sports Festival. According to her, the event serves as an excellent platform to test and prepare Edo State’s athletes for future challenges.

Chikere commended the Niger Delta Sports Commission, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the festival organizers for creating an opportunity for athletes to gain exposure. She noted that the relatively young age of the participants, with a significant percentage under 25, is a promising sign for the state’s sports future.

The Edo State sports administrator revealed that the state has introduced new athletes to the competition, and she is delighted to see them compete against other states. This approach demonstrates Edo State’s commitment to nurturing and developing its sporting talent.

Currently, Team Edo ranks third on the medal table, trailing behind Team Delta and Team Bayelsa. However, with the talent and potential showcased at the Niger Delta Sports Festival, Edo State is poised to make a strong impression and challenge for top spots in future competitions.
