Ahead of the start of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier League season, the management of Rivers United has released 11 players from the team.
The Pride of Rivers started last season strongly and reached the knockout round of the CAF Confederation Cup and Federation.
They also played in the Super 6 of the league but ended the season trophyless and also failed to qualify for the champions league.
To have a better outing next season, the club decided to release some players.
The released players include Bolaji Sakin, Madu Chiamaka, Ihunda Chigozie, Fabian Nworie, Darlington Ovunda, Malachi Ohawunme, Francis Ifeanyi, Akpesiri Naibe, Kenechukwu Agu, Mohammed Farouk and Chukwudi Lawrence.
Rivers United won the Nigerian topflight penultimate season and just last season, Enyimba dethroned them at the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) Super 6 at Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) in Lagos to win their ninth Nigerian league.
